Hello and welcome to the information page for the 'Pram in the hall' zine publication.

Calling all mother creatives!

As part of my PhD research, I am inviting anyone who identifies as a mother to participate in a small creative project using the following quote as a starting point;

‘There is no more sombre enemy of good art than the pram in the hall’ Cyril Connolly (1938)

I will collate creative responses to these words (in all shapes, sizes and media) to form the first edition of the ‘Pram in the hall’ zine and all participants will be invited to a launch event.

I am interested in both positive and negative responses to these words.
Maybe you want to write about your experiences? Has your creative practice changed since having children? Do children influence your practice? However you choose to interpret this quote, it is up to you.

Responses could be in the following methods; photography, writing, collage, painting, sculpture, mixed media.  Performance and audio artists are also welcome to share QR codes to files and sites. I will need high quality images no less than 300dpi please in order to be printed.

Deadline for entries: Midnight Sunday 15th January
Email ljfooks1@uclan.ac.uk with the following:
Artist name and contact email
Artist website and social media

Title of artwork and medium used
Imagery and word saved as the following: JPEG image, word doc, PNG

Thank you for participating, I look forward to seeing all your work!

This project aims to develop opportunities for anyone identifying as a mother to create and make work within their own parameters, recognising the factors in caring that can make this a harder job to achieve.
By allowing you time, space and the ability to work with your own creative methods, I intend to investigate whether this venture works as a manageable and worthwhile approach for creative mothers.
